Quebec Thaw Dates 2019 – Updated

The Department reminds heavy-vehicle users and shippers that authorized load limits are reduced during periods of thaw on all public roads. This is the case every year to account for the lower carrying capacity of the road network during this period.

For the 2019 thaw period, the start and end dates of the load restriction period for each of the thaw zones are as follows:

Dates targeted for 2019

Zone 1 (dates revised on March 11, 2019)

Monday, March 25 to Friday, May 24

Zone 2 (dates revised on March 11, 2019)

Monday, March 25 to Friday, May 24

Zone 3

Monday, March 25 to Friday, May 24

It should be noted that the target dates represent the most likely dates of start and end of the thaw period for each of the three zones. Depending on changing weather conditions, these dates may be delayed or delayed.

Road Closure Correction

Dear Member,

The NH Route 9 Detour notice that I sent yesterday linked to an old notice. The corrected notice is pasted below.

This construction is scheduled to start this coming Monday, March 25.

REGIONAL LARGE TRUCK DETOUR ON NH ROUTE 9 TO BEGIN MARCH 25TH
DETOUR FOR SULLIVAN BRIDGE PROJECT WILL USE US 202 AND NH 101

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces the planned regional truck detour to allow for the replacement of the NH Route 9 bridge over Otter Brook in Sullivan is set to begin on Monday, March 25, 2019.

During this bridge replacement project, a planned local detour route for light vehicles will involve a narrow roadway and sharp turn that will not be easily navigated by larger trucks, large motor homes, and vehicles hauling large travel trailers.

The signed detour for larger truck traffic will direct westbound trucks on NH Route 9 to turn onto US 202 in Hillsborough, to NH Route 101 in Peterborough and proceed west to Keene. The detour heading eastbound will be to NH 101 in Keene to US 202 in Peterborough to NH 9 in Hillsborough.

The new Route 9 bridge over Otter Brook in Sullivan is scheduled to be completed and opened by October 25, 2019.

This roadway reconstruction project along Route 9 begins near the Granite Gorge Ski Area in Roxbury and continues easterly for approximately 2.1 miles to the Centre Street intersection in Sullivan. Road work includes tree removal on the steep ridgeline slopes and slope reduction to improve sight distances. The project will also include significant drainage and guardrail improvements. Bridge work entails replacing the existing NH Route 9 bridge over Otter Brook, and rehabilitating the Centre Street Bridge over Otter Brook.

R.S. Audley, Inc. of Bow, New Hampshire is the general contractor for the $13.5 million project, which has a completion date of July 24, 2020.

Bill that would mandate side underride guards on trailers reintroduced in Congress

A group of U.S. Senators and members of the House this week reintroduced legislation that would mandate side underride guards on tractor-trailers to help mitigate impacts on car occupants in crashes where the car slides under the trailer. The legislation was first introduced in December 2017, but no action was taken.

FMCSA eases process for drivers to upgrade to Class A CDL

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced a new final rule streamlining the process of upgrading from a Class B to Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).

The new rule amends the entry-level driver training regulations published in 2016 that required the same level of theory training for individuals obtaining a CDL for the first time as for those who already hold a Class B CDL and are upgrading to a Class A. FMCSA said it has concluded that eliminating that requirement “will maintain the same level of safety” as established in the 2016 rule.
