LANE CLOSURES ON THE I-95 HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE

For Immediate Release

April 26, 2017

LANE CLOSURES ON THE I-95 HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE
ONE LANE NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND FOR FIVE DAYS

The Maine and New Hampshire Departments of Transportation will be initiating the closure of one northbound and one southbound lane on the I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine, beginning the morning of Thursday, April 27, 2017.

During this lane closure, an inspection of the bridge’s truss members will be conducted, as well as other inspection and annual maintenance efforts. The lane closures will also serve as a traffic control test for planned bridge rehabilitation work that will begin in 2018. Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes or allow additional time to travel. The Departments asks that all motorists be patient, reduce speed, and exercise added caution when traveling near and throughout this work zone. The closed lanes will reopen on the evening of Monday, May 1st.

The Monkey’s Paw’ for a thousand, Alex

Once upon a time there was a magical truck that traveled from place to place, delivering things villagers needed to live their village lives nicely. The magical truck was driven by a big red bear named Heziciah, but he couldn’t tell anyone his name, because bears can’t talk. The End

OK, since I probably can’t get away with that for today’s post, I’ll tell you a real story about finding a monkey’s paw in the cab of the truck.

Two things you need to know before we go any further. One, there’s a story called “The Monkey’s Paw,” by a guy named W.W. Jacobs, about a monkey paw that grants wishes, but the wishes take a catastrophic toll on the lives of people who use them. I read it when I was about 11 years old and it scared the doo-doo out of me. I haven’t been fond of monkeys since I was a tiny kid and a caged spider monkey jerked a knot in my head when I ran out of potato chips. But that’s another story.

Onboard with video: Arnold Transportation targets driver distractions with opt-in safety strategy

Eric Nelson will never forget May 26, 2016. The day’s events are imprinted in memory, in vivid detail, starting with a phone call.

“Did you guys just have an accident?”

The caller was Howard Rogers, a regional sales rep for SmartDrive. He had been in contact with Nelson, vice president of safety for Arnold Transportation, before and after the fleet started to deploy the SmartDrive video-based driver safety system in late 2015.

Rehabilitation of I-393 Bridges in Concord

Single Lane Traffic Over Portsmouth St.

Bison’s Pitzel: Safety is more than compliance

How does your company approach driver safety? If you’re simply using a drivers’ Compliance Safety Accountability performance data and training them to be compliant, that’s not enough.

This was the message Garth Pitzel, Bison Transport’s director of safety and driver development, delivered during a packed educational session on creating safety cultures at the Truckload Carriers Association’s 79thAnnual Convention in Nashville, Tenn.
